Our beginner/improver surf lessons are structured to get you in the water quickly after explaining safety issues and basic techniques, with skills to help you really develop and progress your surfing while having lots and lots of fun!!!!
Get ready to SURF
Lessons are two hours in the water, with all equipment, coaching changing and shower facilities included. We try to teach all our skills while in the water, as that’s where we will want to be in the, waves having fun.
Unlike other surf schools, we organise our surf groups to a maximum ratio of 8 students to 1 surf coach to ensure everyone receives loads of attention.
We can provide all the surf equipment:
- Foam surfboards
- Wetsuits
- Booties
- Gloves and Hoods in the winter
All our coaches are ISA Level 1-3 qualified. Ben himself is a Level 3 surf instructor with over 25 years of coaching experience and all staff work hard to ensure you enjoy and achieve on your surf session.

This great weekend course will leave you with really solid basics, a good range of skills, you should be up and riding waves to the beach, and looking to do turns and even more….. Coaches work hard to show you ways to make surfing fun and easy, reducing the physical effort to help you harness and capture the power of the waves.
For over 25 years, Ben has developed a structured surf coaching system, which allows people to develop their surf ability throughout their surfing lifetime. Through step-by-step coaching clinics and a clear skill development ladder your surfing can reach new heights.
The foundation for all surfing is your basics, and this is what we focus on in a beginners/ improver courses. If you have most of these skills down check out our intermediate surf course for the next stage.

1st Session: Catching Waves
Skills: Getting to the waves, board/ hand position, paddling technique, wave count, picking the right wave, getting to your feet and safety.
2nd Session: Getting to your feet & holding speed
Skills: Timing your pop up, different pop up techniques, using the waves power not yours, controlling body and stance.
3rd Session: Staying Up
Skills: Looking to the right place, error correction, stance and recovery, core control, shifting weight and acceleration, surfing the wave out.
4th Session: Riding Waves & Turning
Skills: Angled take offs, surfing down the line, maintaining speed and power as you pop up, turning and body movement, trying different boards.
Lessons are for two hours in the water with a Level 2/3 qualified surf intructor, who will assess your ability and develop a programme for the weekend to correct any technical issues and basics that may need altering. We are also continually introducing new skills and methods for learning and development.
The theory class involves learning about forecasting waves and reading the conditions of the waves. This is to increase the number and quality of the waves students get. We also focus on safety issues, surf etiquette and other surfing issues.
Our Surf Courses are pitched at the right level for each surfer and are progressive. The aim is to continuously develop and progress the standard of the surfer, hopefully moving them on to more difficult boards and beaches.
